During the quarterly meeting of the ECFA, two outstanding fire service leaders were honored by the Association. The ECFA Fire Officer of the Year and the Fire Chief of the Year awards were established in 2015 in an effort to recognize and honor individuals for long term commitment to the fire service and their community.
These awards acknowledge the importance of recognizing chiefs and officers of the fire service in Eastern North Carolina. This program was conceived to recognize truly outstanding fire chiefs and officers whose actions and leadership in their profession, home, community and country, serve as an example and challenge for all other chief fire executives and officers.
Recipients of the awards are forwarded to the NC Association of Fire Chiefs to be considered for their annual award.
The 2016 ECFA Fire Officer of the Year award was presented to Division Chief Jim McConnell. Chief McConnell is with New Bern Fire Rescue. New Bern Fire Chief Bobby Boyd made the presentation along with ECFA scholarship coordinator Ed Weigl.
The 2016 ECFA Fire Chief of the Year award was presented to Chief Richard Pulley. Chief Pulley is with the Darlington Volunteer Fire Department in Halifax County. Ed Weigl made the presentation and read comments from the nomination form. Pulley also serves on the ECFA board.
Congratulations to both men on a well deserved award! Both of these men represent Eastern North Carolina well.
